Mary Onyali-Omagbemi is the first Nigerian to compete at five Olympic Games; Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. This feat was later equalled by table tennis players Bose Kaffo and Segun Toriola four years later in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Omagbemi won the bronze medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1992 Olympic Games and in the 200 metres at the 1996 Olympic Games. She also won the 1994 Commonwealth Games 100 metres title.
